Simplifying Therapy for Wiskott-Aldrich SyndromeDiplomat supports patients throughout treatment.
Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome (WAS) is an autoimmune condition, which means the body’s immune system targets healthy cells.
People who have WAS have fewer and smaller platelets — the cells that help your blood clot. This can lead to easy bruising or heavy bleeding.
In addition, WAS causes white blood cells not to function properly, which makes it easier for people who have WAS to get infections.
Like many autoimmune conditions, WAS is carried on the X chromosome. Because women have two X chromosomes, they are more likely to be carriers of WAS than to have it themselves. Men have one X chromosome, so they are more likely to have WAS.
Either way, WAS is very rare. It occurs in somewhere between one and 10 males out of every million. It occurs even less in females.

What are the symptoms of Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome?
People who have WAS might notice the following symptoms:
- Prolonged nosebleeds
- Bruises or bleeding in the skin, bowels, and gums
- Eczema (dry, itchy skin)
- Respiratory infections, including sinusitis and pneumonia
How does Diplomat help people with Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome?
People who have WAS often use immune globulin to manage their symptoms. Diplomat Specialty Infusion Group dispenses and infuses those medications for patients at home. But we go beyond medication to support our patients at every step of their treatment.
We help you find third-party financial assistance if you need help paying for treatment. We assist with insurance requirements to help you get on treatment quickly. And we give you 24/7 access to clinical pharmacists for urgent questions. We’re here to help you cope with infections and bleeding events — and to make sure your medication arrives on time, every time.
